Duguima
Duguima is a modern Manhan Opera work created and staged by Baotou Arts Theater, portraying the care of children brought to Inner Mongolia. [1]
Duguima · 都贵玛 · Duguima
This site uses Duguima as the romanized title in English and Spanish. It is not presented as an officially approved translated title.
The story on stage
Xinhua's August 2024 report describes an older Duguima appearing alongside her younger self: the two converse across time. This makes the relationship between memory and earlier experience visible on stage. [2]
In his 2023 review, Zhang Wei describes the young woman's move into childcare and a crisis involving a sick child. He explicitly identifies Commune Director Na, another character in the play, as fictional. The review also discusses the older and younger Duguima appearing together. [3]
These are descriptions of dramatic scenes and characters. A work inspired by a real person can include invented dialogue, composite situations and theatrical devices; establishing which details are historical requires separate evidence. The review is useful for studying the drama, while a script would be needed for exact wording and scene order.
Documented performances

| Date | Event | What the record establishes |
|---|---|---|
| May 2023 | Inner Mongolia showcase at Baotou Grand Theatre. [1] | Reported presentation. |
| August 10, 2024 | Performance at the public theatre of the Inner Mongolia Mass Art Center in Hohhot. [2] | Xinhua's report identifies Baotou Arts Theater and this particular performance. |
The 2023 reports differ on the opening date: Culture and Tourism China gives May 10; Inner Mongolia Daily gives May 9. The table therefore retains only the month. [1] [4]
These records identify presentations, rather than a premiere or a complete touring schedule. A work title can remain the same while its cast, staging or script changes. The dates above therefore should not be used to attach one production's credits to every version.
Questions for a closer reading
The reported meeting of younger and older selves offers a useful starting point: what does each version of the character know, and how does that affect the audience's understanding? The commune official provides another question: how does an invented character help organize a story drawn from historical experience?
To investigate, compare a dated programme with the corresponding script or recording. Note the version, creative team and cast before comparing scenes. The music and performance guide suggests further listening questions; the research resources explain how to distinguish performance documentation from historical evidence.
